The ATQMRA TQ midgets took part in day one of
the 33rd annual Turkey Derby at Wall Township Speedway with
Steve Buckwalter taking the win in a hotly contested race. The
last few laps were particularly exciting with the lead cars
going four wide to thread their way through lap traffic as
they went under the white flag. Buckwalter was able to stay in
front to win his second TQ midget feature in a row in the
Kerry Schanz owned 1K WeeBee Audio and Video Spitfire machine.
Finishing second was Robin Johnston followed by Micro sprint
star Heath Henley and Joe Payne in Colin Martin's Spitfire
house cars with Bob Watkins rounding out the top five.
Joey Payne blistered the 1/3 mile high banks with an 11.961
second lap in the feature for a one lap average of 100.226
MPH. This was the fastest lap of the weekend for all
divisions.
Contingency prizes were presented by Brice's Automotive NAPA
store to Heath Henly for advancing the most positions and to
Howard Boss in his own 29 car for being the last car running
at the end of the race. The feature race winner received
a $25 bonus for winning with a Peter Duchak blueprinted
engine.
Wall Township Speedway, October 7, 2006
In the final points race of the season, Joey Payne earned another first place finish driving the #26 Spitfire house car, followed by Chris DeRitis in the #96 and John Sanders in John Leombruno's #92. Mike Tidaback in the #1 car placed fourth followed by Robin Johnston in the #13.
Wall Township Speedway September 30, 2006
Joey Payne had another first place finish in the #26 Spitfire house car, followed by Don Adams in the #52 and Matt Janisch in Blu Metz's #46. The top three were followed by Tim Behmer in the #69 car and Frank Fischer in the #33.
Mountain Speedway September 24, 2006
Don Adams in the #52 came from an 8th place starting position to win the feature, followed by Bob Watkins, Jr. Lou Cicconi, in his first ATQMRA event since winning the Atlantic City Indoor Race, came in third, followed by Frank Fisher in the #33 and Robin JOhnston in the #13.
Wall Speedway August 19, 2006
Joey Payne, Donnie Adams, and Mike Tidaback claimed the top three spots. Blu Metz and John Sanders rounded out the top five. Lew Ingalls raced for the first time in his new #8 Spitfire placing sixth in the feature. Tim Behmer in the #69 car finished in seventh place.
Joey Payne won another feature at Wall Speedway. Starting in the tenth position he worked his way through to finish first and set the fastest time. Mike Tidaback came in second and Donnie Adams placed third. The next three positions were filled by Chris DeRitis in his #96 Lindblad Badger, John Sanders in the #92, and Kerry Schanz placed sixth in his #1K Spitfire.
Rookie Chris DeRitis started on the pole and won his first race, leading every lap in his #96 Lindblad Badger. Mike Tidaback, Robin Johnston, Donnie Adams, and Joey Payne rounded out the top five
Wall Speedway May 20, 2006 - Season Opener
Joey Payne moved from his seventh position start to take the lead from Russ Bailey in lap 11 and win the feature. Donnie Adams finished second followed by Russ Bailey, Mike Tidaback, and Blu Metz. Bob Watkins, Dave Williams, Kerry Schanz, Chris DeRitis, and Vinnie Testarano rounded out the top ten. We had a total of 19 cars at the race. We have a few additional cars that are being finished and should be out for our next show on June 24 at Wall.
