Good luck to all the Teams tackling the Tough indoor confines of Boardwalk Hall for the Gambler's Classic

Gambler's Classic Next up for the cars of the ATQMRA

Many of the ATQMRA regulars are finishing their preparations for this coming weekend's Gambler's Classic at Board Walk Hall in Atlantic City.  The Alan Mollot BJ MacDonald Lindblad Badger 51 championship winning car will be raced by Ken Schrader for the Friday portion of the show.  2007 ATQMRA driver's Champion Bob Watkins will be making another assault on the indoor oval.  Bob has a long history of indoor competition dating to the now defunct indoor races from Niagara Falls and back to his father's win in AC during the Stockinger Era of indoor races.

Chris "Tyro" deRitis the ATQMRA Wall Township Champ will be making his first race at AC this coming weekend in the Team Risqué Competition Classic Dart Chassis along with teammate, ATQMRA Rookie of the year
Tim Behmer.

Defending race winner Joe "the Jet" Payne will be returning to the seat of the potent Colin Martin Spitfire he used to win last year's race to defend his crown.  His chances should very solid using the tire he helped develop in conjunction with Hoosier specifically for this indoor oval.  A few more sets of these tires are available from Colin Martin at Spitfire racing.  Teaming up with Payne will be none other than Mike Fedorchak, the creator of the Munchkin Midget that achieved fame in the early 90s and continues to win races into the new millenium with Tony Stewart at the wheel indoors in Fort Wayne.  Fedorchak, in a cooperative effort with Mike Osite and Colin Martin will be piloting the 36 Spitfire Development car driven during the outdoor season by ATQMRA hard Charger Tim Buckwalter.

Matt Janisch will be teaming up once more with Mike Osite in the Blu Metz 46 and 48 cars to tackle the tough indoor track in AC.  Both drivers were able to make their way into the A Main in 07 and hope to improve on their finishes from a year ago.  Dan Clover, former ATQMRA stand out will be piloting the same 59 Cicconi 600 micro that Osite raced in Fort Wayne.

Good luck to all of the ATQMRA teams and drivers as they prepare for the indoor races at Boardwalk Hall

Teterboro Airport  "Wings and Wheels" show Sep 15-16

Pinebrook Reunion

The ATQMRA has been invited to take part in the Teterboro Airport "Wings and Wheels" show Saturday September 15 and Sunday September 16th from 9:00 Am to 4:00 PM.  The show takes place at the Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey at the Teterboro Airport.  The show will feature Vintage Aircraft and Auto Show featuring B-17 "Yankee Lady" along with C-47 Dakota, C-54 Skymaster and much more!

The ATQMRA has an off week so this gives us a unique opportunity to get our cars and sponsor names in front of a large audience.  Attendance figures for the 2006 show exceeded 10,000.   We are calling it a "Pinebrook Reunion" event since the show is so close to the location of the fabled Pinebrook Speedway whose closing in 1989 is still felt by the ATQMRA.

The show takes place on the EAST side of Teterboro Airport (KTEB), just past the Control Tower.  From Route 17, take Route 46 East and turn Right on Fred Wehran Drive.  Route 80(either direction), take the Green Street/Teterboro exit, turn East to Huyler Street (dead end and traffic light), then turn Right to the Museum.  Huyler becomes Fred Wehran Drive at Route 46.

We are looking for additional cars to take part in the show.  Contact Ron Dennis for details at 914-497-2069 or check out their  website  http://www.njahof.org/   .

Mike Tidaback Wins ATQMRA Feature at Wall for the Fifteenth Consecutive Year

Chris "Tyro" Deritis Wins ATQMRA Wall Township Track Championship

www.ATQMRA.com

Mike Tidaback of Little Falls NJ won the Keenan Motors ATQMRA Feature at Wall Township Speedway Saturday august 25th.   Chris "Tyro" Deritis secured the ATQMRA Wall Township Track points title for 2007 in driving the Team Risqué Keenan Motors 66 by virtue of his sixth place finish.

Several things were on the line for this nights racing events.  Mike Tidaback had a fourteen year streak of winning a race at Wall on the line.  This was his last opportunity to keep that streak alive and used a last lap pass to take the win by 0.063 seconds over Matt Janisch in Blu Metz'  Valley Extrusion 46.  Tidaback extended his streak to fifteen consecutive years with a feature win at Wall Township Speedway.

Also on the line was the ATQMRA Wall track points championship for 2007.  In the final tally it came down to a tight race between the top three in points Deritis, Bob Watkins Jr. and Robin Johnston.  By virtue of his sixth place finish Deritis was able to do just enough to secure the track title for 07 over Watkins and Johnston.  The margin was a slim four points or one position over the five races that comprised the series within a series.

At the drop of the Green Deritis jumped out to the lead in the risqué 66 and held the lead until the fourth lap when Janisch completed his charge from his fourth starting position to take the lead.  Janisch and Tim Buckwalter had a torrid battle from their 4th and 5th starting positions to arrive at the front of the pack on the fifth lap.  The excitement in the 25 lap headliner only intensified with the two young lions at the point.  Buckwalter mounted several challenges to Janisch's lead only to be thwarted.

Meanwhile Mike Tidaback made an aggressive charge from his 11th starting position to join the battle at the front by lap 7.  Tidaback moved past Buckwalter on lap 22 and set his sights on race long leader Janisch.  With time to extend his streak to fifteen years on the line and time running out in the race Tidaback saw his opening on the last lap in the last turn to make the move to secure the victory by 0.063 seconds or about two feet for one of the closest finishes of the season for the traveling TQ midgets.

Janisch's second place effort was taken away in tech following the race for a tread width violation on the Metz owned machine moving Buckwalter to second and Ryan Tidman to third advancing the rest of the field one position in the rundown.

The next event for the TQ midgets is the Pinebrook Reunion event at the Teterboro Airport "Wings and Wheels" show Saturday September 14 and Sunday September 15th from 9:00 Am to 4:00 PM.  The show takes place at the Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey at the Teterboro Airport.  The show will feature Vintage Aircraft and Auto Show featuring B-17 "Yankee Lady" along with C-47 Dakota, C-54 Skymaster and much more!  Everyone is invited to come out and meet and greet with the cars and stars of the ATQMRA.  Contact Ron Dennis for details at 914-497-2069 or check out their  website  http://www.njahof.org/    .

Tim Buckwalter takes ATQMRA Essington Avenue Auto Parts Night at Mountain Speedway

Tim Buckwalter captured another ATQMRA feature event win at Mountain Speedway in the Colin Martin Spitfire 26 Powered by a potent Duchak Racing Engine in the Essington Avenue Auto Parts night of racing.  Buckwalter advanced from his sixth starting position to take the lead from Mike Tidaback on lap 11.

Tidaback and Zack Martini made up the front row for the start of the Essington Ave Auto Parts feature event.  Tidaback jumped out to the early lead with Martini in tow.  Martini held on to second until Ryan Tidman in the 51 Badger was able to assume the spot on lap 5 and begin to challenge Tidaback.  Buckwalter used the lap 10 restart to his advantage to move from third to the lead passing both Tidaback and Tidman to assume command of the race.  Tidman overtook Tidaback to remain in second and stayed glued to the Buckwalter Spitfire working hard to find a way around.

A restart on Lap 23 gave Tidman the opportunity to challenge Buckwalter on a green white checker finish for the race.  A broken rear on the 51 took Tidman out of contention and allowed Buckwalter to walk away and take the win.  Robin Johnston made a methodical charge from his 13th starting position to finish second in the CRJ Construction Duchak Racing Engines 13.  Mike Tidaback hung on to a podium finish in third with Chris Deritis fresh off his first feature win of the season at Wall Township Speedway finishing fourth in the Keenan Motors Team Risqué 35 Dart.  Matt Janisch advanced from his 11th starting position in the Keenan Motors Valley Extrusion 46 to earn a fifth place finish.

The First of three Essington Avenue Auto Parts Heats was won by Zack Martini driving the Howard Boss owned 29 Courtwright Mountain City Transportation car.  This was a career first ATQMRA heat race win for Martini as a driver and for Boss as a car owner.   Martini Advanced from his third starting position to annex the 8 Lap heat race.   Tidman moved from his second starting position to take the second heat race win with Buckwalter winning the third heat.

ATQMRA News and Notes:  22 cars were present on the night with 20 taking the Glen McGowan green flag for the Essington Avenue Auto parts 25 lap race.  8 out of the top ten cars were powered by Duchak Racing Engines.  A special thanks goes out to Dave Williams for his efforts to promote the ATQMRA events by bringing Essington Ave Auto Parts on board for the night.  Former ATQMRA Secretary Joe Pryzbelinski came to Mountain for the night's races with the Zrinski team and is contemplating a return to competition in his Bruce's Pro car #60 for a limited schedule for the 08 season.  Details will be forthcoming about the King of the Mountain ATQMRA championship weekend at Mountain Speedway on September 29th.  Keenan Motors, Ajax Auto Glass, Team Risqué and Duchak Racing Engines have agreed to come on board to sponsor the Championship determining event. The ATQMRA is looking for additional Sponsorship partners for the King of the Mountain as well as the Turkey Derby.  The ATQMRA's Next race will be Saturday August 25th at Wall Township Speedway.

Tim Buckwalter Following his Essington Avenue Auto Parts ATQMRA Feature victory is interviewed for Blue Ridge Cable TV 11's award winning Victory Lane show Hosted by Brian Unangst airing Wednesdays at 9:30 pm and Thursday at 11:30 am.

The Keenan Motors ATQMRA Driver Points

The Keenan Motors ATQMRA Driver Points Standings are posted at http://www.atqmra.org/points.html .  With the drop races removed Robin Johnston Leads Bob Watkins Chris Deritis, Ryan Tidman and Tim Behmer.  With two races remaining 6th 7th and 8th drivers Frank Fischer, Don Adams and Matt Janisch all have a mathematical shot at the title.  Barring something unexpected it will be a shoot out between the top five in points down to the last lap of the King of the Mountain finally at Mountain Speedway on Saturday September 29th.

Heading into the Finally at Wall this coming Saturday Chris "Tyro" Deritis leads the ATQMRA points standings at Wall With Bob Watkins only 8 points or two finishing positions on the season behind Deritis.  Deritis is the only driver in control of his own destiny for the ATQMRA Wall Township crown.  A second place finish will secure that championship for him no matter what anyone else does.  Robin Johnston is in third but far enough back that he needs a poor finish by both Deritis and Watkins and a solid finish to annex the Wall title.  Tim Behmer and Frank Fischer both have a mathematical shot but both need a lot of help.

The Mountain City Transportation Lobitz Catering points at Mountain Speedway are tight as well with 7th in points Zack Martini having a mathematical shot as well as Tim Behmer and Don Adams but those three need some help to make it happen.  Robin Johnston leads the standings at Mountain followed closely by Bob Watkins, Chris Deritis and Don Adams who are all within striking distance but Adams needs a poor finish by the four ahead of him to have a shot at the crown.  With Adams history of winning races at Mountain he can never be counted out.

The final two races of the season are shaping up to be exciting indeed.  So far this season 47 drivers have earned points.  30 different drivers have earned points at Wall Township and 41 drivers have scored championship points at Mountain Speedway.

The ATQMRA's Next race will be Saturday August 25th at Wall Township Speedway

Tyro takes his First Feature of 2007 in the Keenan Motors Dart Chassis

The New for 2007 Competition Classics Cicconi Dart Chassis Takes its first feature race victory

The Young Warrior Chris "Tyro" Deritis picked up his first Keenan Motors ATQMRA feature event of the 2007 season and the second in his TQ midget career at Wall Township Speedway on the Ray Evernham Racing for a Reason night.  This was the first win for the Lou Cicconi Bj MacDonald Competition Classics Dart Chassis since its debut at  the beginning of the 2007 season.

Mike Tidaback and Chris Deritis comprised the front row and brought the field down to ATQMRA starter Glenn MacGowan's green flag.  Tidaback jumped out to the early lead over Deritis.  Tidaback looked to be on his way to securing yet another feature race win at Wall but lost the lead to Deritis when he became mired in lap traffic on lap 8.  Deritis used the opportunity in lap traffic to take the lead from Tidaback and was never headed from that point.  It was no walk in the park however as Heat race winner Tim Buckwalter moved into second to mount a challenge on lap 10.  He was able to move up to the back door of Deritis and apply pressure until falling from the race on lap 18.  This put Tidaback into second once more where he was only one small mistake on Deritis' part from taking the lead.  Deritis was cool under the pressure and threaded his way through lap traffic to take home the spoils of victory.

Don Adams in the Risque 96 secured a third place finish followed by Bob Watkins in fourth and Matt Janisch in the Valley Extrusion 46 in 5th.    Robin Johnston in the CRJ Construction Duchak Race Engines 13 came across the line in 6th with Tim Behmer in the Risque 68 7th, Don Zrinski in eighth Frank Fischer ninth and Tim Proctor rounded out the top ten.

Both heat races were won from the pole position with Mike Tidaback and Tim Buckwalter taking victories.

ATQMRA Notes:  The night saw the return of the racing Coy family to the ATQMRA in their own construction beautifully prepared "Brat Chassis."  The team plans to run the remainder of the season with the ATQMRA and support the division in 08.  Jeff Kot made his return to the TQ midgets after his hard contact with the fence at Wall earlier in the season.  His night was cut short in a heat race altercation with Tim Proctor.  Proctor was able to return for the feature and garner a top ten finish but the wreck ended Kot's night.

Promtor Jim Morton and his team at Wall Township Speedway put together a fantastic event with the Evernham Motorsports Racing for a Reason night.  The ATQMRA donated T shirts and the proceeds of the 50/50 to the cause.  Pictures of Ms Motorsports 2007 Chelsae Miller who posed with a number of the TQ midgets can be found at www.ATQMRA.com

Ryan Tidman makes it three in a row at Mountain Speedway

Fan Appreciation Night

Ryan Tidman (right) celebrates in victory lane with second place finisher Robin Johnston (middle) and Bob Watkins the third place finisher (left).

Ryan Tidman makes it Three in a row at Mountain Speedway’s Fan Appreciation night

Ryan Tidman’s father Bud had more on the line this night than anyone else.  His hair was on the line.  He told Ryan if he won three races in a row he would let him shave his head.  Ryan was true to form taking his third ATQMRA feature in a row and removed his father’s locks.  Bud graciously lived up to his part of the bargain.

This is the second time Tidman accomplished the feat in the Mollot Badger previously having won three in a row at Mahoning Valley in 2005.

Rookie of the year contender Tim Behmer took advantage of his pole starting position to lead the most laps on the night. Behmer fought valiantly to keep veterans Bob Watkins, Robin Johnston, and Tidman at bay until the fifteenth lap when Tidman made an outside move to take the lead.   Behmer has been on the edge of cracking into victory lane all year.  His first career win cannot be far away.

Robin Johnston came across the line in second with points leader Bob Watkins third followed by Don Adams in fourth with Behmer settling into fifth.  Mike Tidaback finished a solid sixth in his second race of the year at Mountain Speedway with Matt Janisch seventh.  Don Zrinski making his 2007 debut in the family owned Quality Painting 75 came across the line eighth with Zack Martini and Frank Fischer rounding out the top ten.

Ryan thanked co-car owners Alan Mollot and BJ MacDonald of Competition Classics for providing him with a car that handled perfectly all night in his TV interview for Blue Ridge Cable TV sports.

Heat races were won by Bob Watkins and Robin Johnston.

Fan Appreciation night was a success with race fans having the opportunity to meet the drivers and see the cars up close.  Teams handed out candy, Hot Wheels cars, autograph cards, programs and ATQMRA T-shirts to the fans.  Many of the kids got the treat of climbing into the blistering fast TQ midgets for pictures.  Check out www.ATQMRA.com for pictures.

News and Notes:  21 ATQMRA TQ midgets were in attendance with 19 competing on the night.  Mike Osite made his first trip to Mountain Speedway taking hot laps in the Howard Boss 55 car.  ARDC Midget regular Chris Zrinski raced the Family 25 car for his first ATQMRA event in a number of years since making the transition to the wingless dirt midgets.  The ATQMRA will next appear at Wall Township Speedway for the Ray Evernham Racing for a Reason night to help fund the ongoing research to find a cure for cancer through Ray Evernham’s charity for Leukemia and Lymphoma research.  www.racingforareason.org

Tidman charges from the rear twice to earn the ATQMRA victory at Mountain

Ryan Tidman driving the Alan Mollot/Bj MacDonald Competition Classics Badger started in the tenth position  and had to make his charge to the front twice before winning the 20 lap ATQMRA feature event at Mountain Speedway near Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

Tim Behmer in the Dan Deritis Risqué Racing Keenan Motors 69 took the lead from his pole starting position.  In the early going Behmer looked strong holding off the challenges of Matt Janisch in the Valley Extrusion 46 and Tidman who moved into position to challenge for the lead on lap 6.  A caution halted Tidman's charge and the ensuing restart punted Tidman to the rear as a result of a missed shift and wheel to wheel contact  with the 96 Risqué Badger driven by Don Adams.

With Tidman falling back to 11th Janisch made a bold move to the inside of Behmer to take the lead on lap 7.  A caution on lap 11 slowed the field.  On the restart John Sanders and Joe Payne Jr. got the jump on Janisch with Sanders moving into the lead briefly on the outside.  Payne and Sanders made contact several times going down the back straightaway before both cars flipped entering the third turn.

Janisch was back in front but the Tidman Badger worked his way up to fourth behind Robin Johnston and Behmer.  Janisch was able to move out to a slight lead but Tidman was on a mission passing the Johnston CRJ Construction 13 and Behmer before setting his sights on Janisch by lap 13.  Tidman made a bold move to the inside on lap 14 to overtake Janisch and power away to win by 3.96 seconds.  Janisch had his ATQMRA best second place finish followed by Johnston, Tim Behmer and Jeremy Frankoski who made an impressive run in the Joe Csernak 8X to earn a to five.

Heat races were won by Don Adams in the John Loembruno 91A and Frank Fischer in his own 33 Spitfired car.  It was a first on two fronts for car owner John Loembruno getting his first heat race victory with the Badger 91A and Fischer taking his first ATQMRA Checkered flag.

Jeremy Frankoski traveled down to Mountain Speedway for the event.  Jeremy was not expecting to drive but like any driver had his gear with him. There just happened to be someone looking for a driver and on Lou Cicconi’s word car owner Joe Csernak put Jeremy in his number 8x TQ midget.  They were able to get the car set up and climb from 12th to post Jeremy's first ATQMRA top five.

The night saw the debut of Joe Payne III in the John Payne Twin Eagles 66P.  This marks the third generation of Payne's involved with the ATQMRA.  Payne had problems with the engine management system on the car and was unable to come up to speed.  It was nice to see Joe Sr., Joe Jr. and Joe III together with Johnny Payne and the Twin Eagles Team back in action with the ATQMRA.

Following the feature the top three cars were teched having their valve covers removed and cam profiles checked.  All cars passed post race inspection.

ATQMRA points leader Bob Watkins suffered a bent rear axle in warm ups that prevented him from racing the rest of the night.  This will surely affect his championship hopes for the season.

The ATQMRA will appear next at Mountain Speedway on July 28th and at Wall Township Speedway on August 4th for the Ray Evernham Racing for a Reason Charity night.

Buckwalter Best in ATQMRA Wall Run

Don Adams Ryan Tidman and Tim Buckwalter in the Keenan Motors Wall Township Victory lane

By Walter Elliott

WALL TWP., N.J. -- Young Tim Buckwalter made his first taste of Wall
Township Speedway satisifying by winning the Keenan Motors American Three
Quarter Midget
Racing Association feature here Saturday night.

Buckwalter, aboard Colin Martin's Spitfire-Suzuki GSXR No. 36 came from
seventh starting spot to challenge initial laeder Matt Janisch within the
first three laps.
Janisch,  who split the eight-lap heats with Ryan Tidman, faded from the
laed on lap 10 and finished fifth.

Although Buckwalter would never be headed the remaining 15 laps, reigning
ATQMRA drivers  champion Don Adams pressed from his ninth grid spot to
challenge the  Keystine micro sprint standout. Adams and Buckwalter found
that lapped traffic would
alternatingly  helped or hindered  their midrace progress. The leaders
sought a way past some of the backmarkers who attempted
three-wide passing among themselves at one point.

Tidman, who won the last Keenan ATQMRA round at Mountain Speedway near
Hazleton, Pa., took second from Adams but ran out of laps to catch
Buckwalter. Buckwalter, who won his first career ATQMRA race at Mountain
June 9, put a 2.755 sec. victory margin on Tidman. He was averaging 95.352
mph during the 25 laps.

"Now that I'm here, it's fun to run at Wall," said Buckwalter. "You have
to watch where you're  going with the banking, or you can easily find the
wall."  Adams and current drivers points leader Bob Watkins, Jr. rounded out
the
top four of 15 finishers.

The runners included ninth placed finisher Jeremy Frankoski, of Newark
Valley, N.Y. Frankoski, a former Finger Lakes region microd, Slingshot and
micro sprint driver, was aboard the Riosque Racing No. 35. The Payne
brothers joined ARDC midget regular Mark Lawshe, Sr., as nonfinishers. Joey
Payne pulled his No. 26 Spitfire GSXR with a rare failure on lap six.
Brother Johnny parked his Twin Eagle No. 66P due to overheating woes. The
No. 66P's retirement left the No. 66D of Chris DeRitis to continue for a
seventh place finish. The Dart-GSXR car still bears Robbie Pecorari's name
although the Aston, Pa., driver was running the IRL Indy Pro Series Corning
Twin 100s at Watkins Glen this weekend.  Pecorari finished 22 after a spin
Saturday but passed 11 rivals to finish 11th Sunday afternoon.

Neither Mike Tidaback nor Ron Dennis took the feature's green flag. While
the experienced Tidaback suffered a rear end gear problem during warmups,
Dennis his the backstretch guardrail hard during Janish's heat. Dennis, of
Bayside, Queens, N.Y., said he was being treated overnight at a local
hospital for a broken  foot and a bruised shoulder. The construction project
manager had previously raced asphalt modifieds at Flemington before driving
the ex-Dave Wessel No. 27 Shadow Sidewinder-GSXR at Mountain late June. The
Keenan ATQMRA tour returns to Mountain, St. John's, Pa., Saturday.

WALL WRITINGS: "We're about to have the third generation of Paynes start
with us next race," said ATQMRA President Blu Metz. Metz and Johnny Payne
said Joey Payne, Jr., is to start in the No. 66P at Mountain Speedway.
Payne, a Fair Lawn (N.J.) High School student, is to start his first career
race. . . Don Adams started his second race of the season in a Risque Racing
No. 96. The car is actually Adams' No. 52 Lindblad-Badger/GSXR repainted a
Day-Glo orange.
The ATQMRA's appearance coincided with that of one of its ancestors, thanks
to Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club member Robert Hall. Hall, of Mt.
Holley, said he spent four years restoring the 1945 No. 1 Crosley TQ. The
No. 1, which would actually be called a Tom Thumb car, is powered by an
inline four Crosley engine that used to be the TQs early main powerplant.
The No.1 was parked before the GSVSCC Racing Through Time museum on the
midway as part of that group's display. --30--

WE/we I got a call from Ron Dennis, of Bayside, Queens, N.Y., about the same
time ATQMRA President Blu Metz sent this e-mail.   Dennis confirmed that he
has a broken bone in his left foot and a bruised left shoulder. He has been
released from a hospital near Wall Twp. Speedway and hopes to appear in a
show of support at the ATQMRA's next race
Saturday at Mountain Speedway of St. Johns, Pa.

John Sanders Tops Junk Yard Dog Competition

From left to right are Delaware Valley Dave Williams, third place finisher and Junk Yard Dog Winner John Sanders, Race winner Ryan Tidman, Second Place finisher Don Adams with Pit Steward Joe Csernak and ATQMRA President Blu Metz.  (Picture by Linda Bell)

Ryan Tidman made a methodical charge from his 12th starting position to take the lead on lap 22 of the 25 lap race and went on to post his second win of the season in the Alan Mollot/ BJ MacDonald Competition Classics Badger in the ATQMRA event at Mountain Speedway in Pennsylvania Presented by Dave’s Delaware Valley Towing.  Heat races were won by Robin Johnston and Matt Janisch.

The first Dave’s Delaware Valley Towing Heat race was won by Robin Johnston in his CRJ Construction Duchak Racing engines 13.  Bruno Loembruno lead the initial lap but was overtaken by the previous shows feature race winner Lightening fast Tim Buckwalter.  Johnston moved from his 6th starting position to take the lead on lap 6 and crossed the line first followed by Don Adams and Dave Williams in third.Bob Watkins fourth and Jim Peruto rounded out the top five in his first TQ midget start.  The race was marred by a red flag for the flipping Bruce Leote in his TQ built on an RTS 270 Micro Chassis as well as an incident that sidelined the Bruno Loembruno 91A.

The second Dave’s Delaware Valley Towing heat saw Matt Janisch and Zack Martini on the front row.  A side by Side battle for the lead went on for the first three laps between Janisch and Martini before Janisch took the lead for good by the fourth lap and went on to take the heat race win followed by John Sanders with Martini third,  Frank Fischer fourth followed by Team Risqué teammates Tim Behmer and Chris Deritis.

The  Dave’s Delaware Valley Towing 25 lap feature saw Martini and Janisch bring the field down for the green with Martini anticipating Glen MacGowan’s green flag perfectly to take the lead.  Janisch made it a side by side battle for just shy of a lap when a suspension failure sidelined the 46 car.  On the restart Martini again got the jump on fellow Junk Yard Dog competitor John Sanders and opened nearly a straight away lead on second place.

In the mean time Don Adams and Ryan Tidman were making their charge through the field.  Adams overtook the 29 machine of Martini to take the lead on lap 16.  The Tidman 51 moved into second a lap later and overtook Adams for the lead on lap 22.

A side by side battle raged on between the top Junk Yard Dogs Martini and Sanders until Sanders took the position on lap 23.  Martini came across the line in fourth in what appeared to be a dead heat side by side with Chris Deritis who was scored by the electronic timing and scoring system in fifth in a battle that was too close to call with the naked eye.

Tidman thanked car owners Alan Mollot and BJ MacDonald of Competition Classics for a perfectly set up car in his interview with Track announcer Mike Odwazny in front of a solid crowd at the St. John’s Pa oval.  Tidman had the fastest lap of the day (13.016 Sec at 92.102 MPH )  in the 51 Lindblad badger that is one of the winningest TQ midgets ever built.

ATQMRA news and notes:  Keenan Motors’ Jim Peruto and Ron Dennis made their driving debuts with the ATQMRA coming home with 11th and 12th finishing positions respectably.  Peruto made his racing debut in the Team Risqué 66 Dart Racing Chassis.  Former Flemington Modified racer Ron Dennis was in the former Bruce Wessel Shadow Sidewinder Chassis 27 with Jeff Mann as crew chief.  To date 38 drivers and 31 cars have earned points with the ATQMRA with 5 different drivers winning in 6 races run with Tidman being the first to repeat to maintain the Championship points lead for the 51 car.  The next event for the Keenan Motors ATQMRA is at Wall Township Speedway on Saturday July 7th.  Tune into Steve and Ed Pados CARQUEST Gasoline Alley TV/Radio/Internet Show  on Monday night from 6 to 8 to win tickets to ATQMRA races at Mountain and Wall Township Speedway on the  Internet at  www.walncableradio.com and Service Electric Digital Cable TV, Channels 126, and137 is live from 6 to 9 PM and later tape delayed on Channel 50 at 11 PM.

Tim Buckwalter Wins first Career ATQMRA feature event at Mountain Speedway

It was just a matter of time before Young Tim Buckwalter won his first ATQMRA feature.  He was fast in each of his previous outings in the Colin Martin 36.  He won several heat races and ran at the front of the field in his earlier outings.  This was his night to grab the brass ring.  Buckwalter moved from his outside pole starting position to take the lead on the second lap.  He lead the rest of the way to win his first ATQMRA feature event in the Colin Martin Spitfire development car.  Buckwalter swept the heat and feature event for the evening.  Matt Janisch lead the first two circuits before surrendering the lead to Buckwalter who made an outside move to take the lead.  Don Adams came across the line in second followed by Chris Deritis with Robin Johnston fourth and Bob Watkins fifth

Heat races were won by Buckwalter and Don Adams in the Team Risqué badger 96.  Bruno Loembruno looked to be on track to secure the heat race win but lost he lead to Adams with a lap to go.  In an unfortunate turn of events Loembruno spun and flipped his lightening fast badger 91A damaging the wing but returned to compete in the feature with the wing from the Team Risqué  66 Dart.

Payne Paces ATQMRA Field

Walter Elliott
 June 2

 Wall Twp. Speedway:
 By Walter Elliott

WALL TWP., N.J. -- Joey Payne, of Fair Lawn, N.J., won what he said was the
seventh of his last nine Keenan Motors American Three Quarter Midget Racing
Association features
here at Wall Township Speedway Saturday night.

"Joey the Jet" got the drop on second row mate Chris Deritis at the start
and went on to lead all  25 laps. The No. 26 Spitfire-Suzuki GSXR pilot
held a 1.445 sec. victory
margin of Deritis and current Keenan Motors ATQMRA points leader Bob
Watkins, Jr.

Payne thanked car owner Colin Martin and those who prepared the No. 26
while
in WTS victory lane. The sprint, midget and supermodified star, however,
addeed that he is
not going after the drivers point championship. Payne entered Wall at 19th
place - 88 points to
Watkins' 328 - after five ATQMRA races run so far.

"I'm running for win and not points," said Payne. "With my NorthEast Midget
Assn. schedule, I try to make as many of the ATQMRA races as I can. Colin,
the crew and Spitfire
prepare this car so well that all I do is to get in and drive."

Although Payne's Spitfire basked in the spotlight, Deritis drove the No. 35
Dart-GSXR to second place. Watkins - who kept his distance from a fourth
place battle among Ryan
Tidman, Matt Janisch and John Blewett III - also had news from victory
lane.

"It's nice to lead the points now, but I want to be leading at season's
end," said Watkins after leaving his No. 91 Lindblad-GSXR to shake Payne
and Deritis' hands. "I'm
going to win one of these races soon. I hope so because this is my last
full-time season."

Blewett took a Deritis sister No. 66 DART-GSXR from 13th place on the last
row to finish sixth. The defending Wall NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
Modified Champion and
Modified Tour star said his other TQ start was in a wintertime Atlantic
City indoor Gamblers
Classic.  "The No. 66 crew came over and asked if I can drive their car,"
said
Blewett. "It's fun running a TQ. I'll drive one again if another
opportunity comes."  Blewett becomes the 34th different driver in ATQMRA
competition so far this season.

Robbie Pecorari, of Aston, Pa., drives the No. 66 whenever hos IRL Indy Pro
Series
 schedule allows.

Neil Blatt had held fourth place before a technical problem encroached on
lap 23. He took the checkered flag in 10th place before his No. 09  stalled
on the backstretch.
Robin Johnston, who has his Peter Duchak Engines homebuilt-GSXR No. 13 for
sale, dropped out on lap
 13.

ATQMRA and Wall officials agreed to run a 25-lap feature instead of two
eight-lap heats and a 20- lap feature Saturday. Defending ATQMRA champion
Don Adams was named to Howard Boss No. 55 car but the current club treasurer
did not take its steering wheel.

The ATQMRA is to return to Wall's banked paved one-third-mile oval July 7.
The TQs are to meanwhile revisit Mountain Speedway, St. Johns, Pa., June 9
and 23.

FEATURE FINISH (25 laps): JOEY PAYNE(Duchak Racing Engines, Jesus Racing
MInistries/Chattham and Main), FAIR LAWN, N.J.; Chris Deritis(Shadow Racing

Leote, Tim Behmer, Frank
Fischer(Brice's NAPA), Neil Blatt, Art Lawshe, Jr.(Junk Yard Dog Award),
Howard Boss; (DNF) Robin Johnston; (DNS) Don Adams.

TQ TIDBITS: Robbie Pecorari is riding the roillercoaster that the IRL Indy
Pro Series can sometimes be. Pecorari had to park his Cabo Wabo Tequila
Infiniti-Dallara 16 laps into
the Milwaukee Mile Road Runner 100 with handling problems 16 laps into the
race. He came from 22nd
startng spot to finish 11th in the May 25 Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor
Speedway. Pecorari is
to try to halt Alex Lloyd's five race win streak in the June 15-16 Liberty
Challenge double
features on the IMS USGP F1 road course.

The Keenan Motors ATQMRA ran two exciting features at Mountain Speedway on Saturday May 26th with Ryan Tidman in the Alan Mollot Competition Classics 51 taking the rain-rescheduled event from May 12th and Don Adams in the Colin Martin Spitfire 26 taking the regularly scheduled feature event with John Sanders in the John Loembruno 92 Voulo Chassis 92 sweeping the Junk Yard Dog award for both events.  Heat races were won by Don Adams and Tim Buckwalter.

Blu Metz jumped out to the lead from his pole starting position.  The lead was not secure with hard charging Ryan Tidman in pursuit taking to the high side to attempt to take the lead.  Unable to make the high side work Tidman settled in and made his move to take the lead on the inside by lap 8 and was not headed the rest of the way.  He was followed across the line by Bob Watkins and Frank Fischer With Lew Ingalls equaling his best finish in fourth with John Sanders taking fifth to win the Junk Yard Dog award for being the first  car with a completely stock junk yard motor.

The second portion of the days events saw Don Adams take the first heat race and Tim Buckwalter taking his second heat race of the season.

Twenty cars took to the track for the feature.  The fans were treated to an extremely exciting race that came right down to the wire with side by side battles around the track.  Don Adams took the early lead from his pole starting position in the Spitfire 26 over Chris Deritis.  Robin Johnston from his 7th starting position had his sights set on getting to the front and made a hard charge to take second from Deritis on lap 5 and moving past Adams to take the lead on lap 11.

Ryan Tidman made a slow charge toward the front in the Mollot Lindblad Badger moving into 3rd by the 10th lap with his sights set of overtaking the leaders. Tidman and Adams sliced their way through lap traffic until Tidman was able to slip into 2nd on lap 24 and nearly take the lead in the final lap when he tangled with race long leader Johnston handing the victory to Adams.  Lou Ingalls recording his career best finish of second followed by a determined Frank Fischer in third after a flip in his heat race. John Sanders made a last lap move on the final straight away to nip Tim proctor at the line for fifth to win his second JYD award of the day.

Contingency award winners: Shadow Racing Products to John Sanders and Tim Proctor,  NAPA South Plainfield to Chris Deritis and Bruno Loembruno,  M&R to Blu Metz and Bruce Leote, Duchak Racing engines to Don Adams and Brices NAPA to Tim Behmer and Bob Watkins.

Tim Behmer turned in his TQ best finish by taking second followed by the Keenan Motors Dart chassis driven by Chris Deritis.  Watkins recovered from his earlier spin to finish 4th with IRL Indy light series regular Robbie Pecorari.

Back to Back Bailey at Mountain Speedway

April 29th 2007

Russ Bailey backed up his winning effort in the Spring Fling Thunder at Mountain by winning his second TQ race of the season in the Alan Mollot/BJ MacDonald Lindblad Badger 51 at Mountain Speedway in ST. John's Pa.  Robin Johnston finished second followed by Rookie sensation Tim Buckwalter.

Bailey took the early lead but had to earn the win after several cautions bunched the field.  following an early caution Bailey was challenged by Buckwalter but staved off the challenge.  After a late race caution bailey held the point over then second place Robing Johnston.

Joe Payne advancedfrom his 12th starting position to fourth place in the feature in the Lew Ingalls 8 Spitfire.  Payne took over the ride in this car after the engine in the Colin Martin 26 expired.

Bailey turned in the fastest lap of the day at 91.609 MPH followed by Robin Johnston at 91.094 MPH followed by Tim Buckwalter at 91.240 MPH.

Heat races were won by Russ Bailey and Tim Buckwalter.

"Liquid" Lou Cicconi driving the Jim Peruto Keenan Motors 35 Dart looked to be a sure winner in the first heat when a flat tire sent him to the pits.  Team Risqué and Competition Classics put forth a Herculean effort to  have all four team cars at the track for this week's races.  The 35 Peruto car suffered substantial damage in the lap one crash a week ago but was returned to service one week later.

The next ATQMRA race will be at Wall Township Speedway on Sunday May 6th for the Thunder at the Shore weekend running in conjunction with  the Whelen Modified tour event.

Contingency award winners were Russ Bailey and Dave Williams (Design 500),  Jeff Werner (Brices NAPA),  Bob Watkins (M&R),  Neal Blatt (AutoTrim Design).
