ATQMRA Chemung Debut cancelled due to rain

The ATQMRA had 25 cars on hand for their debut at Chemung Speedrome in the southern tier of New York.  An early practice session gave teams an opportunity to test and tune to the ultra fast and challenging speedway.  Bobby Santos and Don Adams turned the fastest laps during the practice session running sub 15 second laps.  It was Santos' first time in the Cicconi Dart car and his first time running with the ATQMRA.

Promoter Bob Stapleton was so impressed with the TQ midgets he offered additional dates to the ATQMRA for this season and wants to see the ATQMRA race at Chemung's sister track Spencer Speedway as well.  We plan to have cars at Spencer to test and evaluate the that track for the TQ midgets and announce the dates when they are finalized.

ATQMRA Chemung Fast Facts:  Bob Marlow sent along word that the ATQMRA raced at Chemung many years ago, likely when Chemung was a quarter mile.  The most notable thing Bob remembered from that event was Will Ford, the 1979 ATQMRA driving champion hit a deer on the way home from the races.  The practice session went off with only the Lew Ingalls car making contact with the wall to avoid a spinning Richie Coy.  The numerous teams pitched in to make sure the 8 Spitfire car was ready to race before the rains intensified and the race event was cancelled.  The Howard Boss 55 made its 2008 debut.  Bing Metz made a return behind the wheel of the Blu Metz 46 for the test session turning in some respectable laps.  Ryan Tidman was to race the BJ MacDonald Competition Classics 49.  Next up for the cars and stars of the ATQMRA is Mountain Speedway on May 24th.

See you at the races
