The Spitfire Story

The concept of the Spitfire was conceived in late 2004 by Colin Martin , Denver, Pa. Businessman and long time TQ midget car owner.

The idea: Build an affordable but competitive TQ using as many mass produced micro sprint parts as possible. Start with a race proven assembly line built micro sprint chassis designed for dirt, Interrupt the assembly line only enough to adjust mounting points to make the car “asphalt friendly” but not enough to make it a “one off” car.

After many discussions with Mike Dicely and the staff of Hyper Racing and input from TQ chassis guru Alan Mollot of Englishtown, N.J. and B.J. McDonald of Classis Competition Specialties the decision was made to proceed.

The big question remained…….. WOULD IT BE FAST ?

The first Spitfire rolled off the assembly line at Hyper racing in late May 2005 and made it’s competition debut at Wall Township Speedway on June 11, 2005.

Never having been raced, and therefore having no points, the Spitfire was relegated to the rear of the field. Undaunted by his starting position, driver Russ Bailey of Helmetta, N.J. took the Spitfire from last to first in the 20 lap feature

Big question answered…….. VERY FAST !

A storybook day- First race, first feature, first win.
